King’s Daughters Medical Center, in conjunction with the Kentucky Heart Foundation, is offering free Heart Scans to eligible persons in our area. Heart Scan is a simple, painless CT exam that takes less than 10 minutes. Heart Scan detects minute levels of calcium inside the coronary arteries. Calcium and plaque combine to clog arteries, which can lead to a heart attack.

Who’s eligible

This screening exam is open to individuals age 45 to 65 who have:

• Never been diagnosed or told they have heart disease
• Never had a cardiac catheterization or stent
• Never had open heart surgery or other heart procedure

• Never been treated by a cardiologist or other heart specialist

 Safe Sitter®, a class to teach adolescents ages 11 to 14 how to establish a baby sitting business and to safely care for children, is being offered Saturday, April 25, by King’s Daughters Medical Center. Class begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m. in the KDMC Health Education Center (lower level of the Lexington Avenue parking garage). The class is taught by certified Safe Sitter® instructors and covers a wide range of topics, including: establishing a successful business, recognizing potential hazards and preventing accidents and injuries, responding to an infant or child that is choking, what to do in an emergency, dealing with problem behavior, and age-appropriate activities for infants, toddlers and school age children. The class format includes lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities and group projects. Students take a final exam to earn certification as a Safe Sitter^®.

Reservations are required and there is a $20 fee for snacks and class materials, however, no one is turned away if they are unable to pay the fee. To make a reservation, please call 1-888-377-KDMC (5362).
