Privacy/HIPAA Information
As more health information is stored and transferred electronically, Congress recognized the need to develop national patient privacy standards and enacted the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. The privacy standards went into effect April 14, 2003. HIPAA mandates that all healthcare providers, such as King's Daughters Medical Center, adopt standards related to the protection and security of identifiable health information.
As a result of these extensive governmental regulations, King's Daughters has been working carefully to ensure that all standards are adopted. Some of the steps the medical center has taken, and is in the process of maintaining, include:
- Development of HIPAA/Privacy steering committee to implement upgraded privacy program
- Appointment of Privacy Officer Scott A. Hill, MS, CPP, CHPA
- Development of privacy policies and procedures to assure privacy is maintained
- Education of all team members on privacy and HIPAA
- Formal privacy assessments of the medical center
- Link to King's Daughters privacy notice that is given to all patients is available on this page
