Average Door to Balloon Time
Time is critical during a heart attack. The national standard for opening a blocked coronary artery – called the “door to balloon time” or D2B – is 90 minutes.
King’s Daughters Code: Heart program meets this standard consistently. Our average D2B is just 52 minutes, well below the national benchmark.
Not only that, we achieve the 90-minute standard for 95 percent of all patients who come to us for balloon angioplasty, including time spent at other hospitals before transfer to KDMC.
We are so successful because we take heart care seriously.
Our heart specialists – cardiologists, emergency physicians, nurses, technologists – are on call and available to provide the highest level of care and expertise for your heart 24/7/365.
No one else is the region matches our performance. Or our dedication.
468 Open-Heart Surgeries Last Year
If you, or someone you love, needed open heart surgery, wouldn’t you want to know how many surgeries the doctor – and team – did last year? And wouldn’t it feel good to know they’d exceeded national benchmarks for both quantity and quality?
Last year, our heart surgery team performed 468 coronary bypasses. That’s more than triple the number performed by the southeast Kentucky alternative.
And King’s Daughters Medical Center doesn’t have just one heart surgeon. We have three:
- Eric Bronstein, M.D., who trained at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., has been performing open heart since 1997, and is board certified by the American Board of General Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
- Robert Fried, M.D., who trained at Mt. Sinai Hospital and Medical Center in New York City and the New York Hospital of Cornell Medical Center in New York City and has been performing open-heart surgery for more than 22 years.
- JC MacHannaford, M.D., who trained at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and the Cleveland Clinic and has been at King’s Daughters since 2009.
Not only do we perform more open-heart surgeries every year, we achieve outstanding results. King’s Daughters program was just named one of America’s 100 Top Hospitals for cardiac surgery. Others might claim to be the best, but the real proof is in the numbers.
