ASHLAND, Ky. – King’s Daughters Medical Center has recently received several awards from the American Heart / American Stroke Association in recognition of the medical center’s efforts to provide high-quality, evidence-based healthcare. 
The awards – for stroke, heart failure and resuscitation – recognize KDMC for consistently providing the most advanced, scientifically based treatments according to nationally established guidelines. 
King’s Daughters earned the Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus 2012 Award for stroke care. The award recognizes King’s Daughters compliance with GWTG standards at least 85 percent of time for consecutive 12-month intervals. The Plus designation represents an additional 75 percent compliance with specific quality measures for at least 12 consecutive months.

King’s Daughters Medical Center, in conjunction with the Kentucky Heart Foundation, is offering a free varicose vein screening beginning at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15 at King’s Daughters Medical Specialties – Proctorville, 6276 State Route 107, Proctorville. Vascular/endovascular surgeon Al Addasi, M.D., will perform the screening.

Everyone needs to be able to travel safely on the streets in their communities. However, many roads are built with only drivers of cars or trucks in mind, making streets difficult and often dangerous for bicyclists, pedestrians and public transportation users. Healthy communities have streets that accommodate individuals on foot and bike and benefit the entire community, says Andrea Plummer, a health policy analyst with Kentucky Youth Advocates. Plummer will talk about the complete streets movement, childhood obesity, health, and the community at a special program sponsored by the Boyd-Greenup Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities Coalition at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15.
