King’s Daughters offers free tobacco cessation program

Ashland, Ky. – The New Year will soon be upon us, and it is as good a time as any to resolve to stop using tobacco. King’s Daughters Stop for Life tobacco cessation program is helping people in our region break their addiction to tobacco.
This free support group meets weekly. Participants may attend 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays or noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays in King’s Daughters Health Education Center (lower level of the Lexington Avenue parking facility).
The cornerstones of this highly successful program are:
• Medical supervision by KDMC oncologist David Goebel, M.D.
• Assistance obtaining prescriptions for nicotine replacement products (participants are responsible for purchasing products)
• Behavior modification
• Group support
• Conducted by a certified tobacco treatment specialist
• Free access to the Ashland Area YMCA while attending the support group (up to 12 weeks)
Participants who remain tobacco free for at least 12 weeks will graduate and celebrate with the group their success in starting a new life. Additionally, each member has lifetime membership for times when they need additional support to remain tobacco free.
