King’s Daughters offers free skin cancer screening


King’s Daughters family physician Jane Wiseman Strader, M.D., will perform free skin cancer screenings beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at King’s Daughters Medical Specialties – Russell, 399 Diederich Blvd.

Dr. Strader will review suspicious spots and lesions with participants and provide follow-up recommendations and education on skin cancer prevention, detection and treatment.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer occurring in the U.S. and its incidence is growing.

More than 3.5 million skin cancers were predicted to be diagnosed in 2012, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Melanoma, the most aggressive form, accounts for less than 5 percent of cases but the majority of deaths. Approximately 86 percent of melanomas can be attributed to ultraviolent radiation exposure, including indoor tanning.
