ASHLAND, Ky. – King’s Daughters Medical Center is offering free aortic valve screenings from 1 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, at the Kentucky Heart Institute offices, 1709 State Route 321, Suite 2, Northside Center, Prestonsburg.
Appointments are required and can be made by calling 1-866-377-KDMC.
The screening uses ultrasound to examine the aortic valve of the heart. The exam is painless and noninvasive.
To be eligible, people must be age 50 or older. The American Heart Association estimates about 13 percent of the population age 75 or older have valve disease, and VHD was responsible for approximately 21,000 deaths in 2007.
