Long-time Portsmouth internist George E. Esham, M.D., has joined King's Daughters Medical Center, and will begin seeing patients Monday, April 2, at the King's Daughters facility on Scioto Trail. Dr. Esham and his staff are making the transition, and their office will be located on the building's second floor.

"You will see very little change in the way that you are treated as a patient," Dr. Esham said. "As always, the decisions about where you are referred for consultations, testing, or procedures are yours to make."

"We believe the public has come to equate high quality patient care with King's Daughters Medical Center," KDMC President/CEO Fred Jackson, said. "Having a physician of Dr. Esham's caliber join our team is a great benefit for his patients and everyone in Scioto County. We believe in teamwork, especially when it comes to our medical staff."

The office's telephone number has remained the same. The new address is:

The third floor adds more than 8,500 square feet, and also is the home of two specialists new to the Portsmouth area, including:
• Endocrinologist Prasanna Santhanam, M.D. Dr. Santhanam helps patients with a wide range of medical matters, including diabetes, hormone imbalance, metabolism and endocrine gland issues.
• Otolaryngologist Jon Brinkman, D.O. Dr. Brinkman is an ear, nose and throat specialist (the official name is otolaryngologist), treating pediatric and adult patients for allergy and hearing issues.
Pulmonologist and Intensivist Mohamad Abul-Khoudoud, M.D., also has been seeing patients at the facility since 2011. Dr. Abul-Khoudoud specializes in pulmonology, helping patients with respiratory matters. He also is an Intensivist, seeing patients in the Intensive Care Unit at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
King's Daughters Urgent Care Center also is expanding its hours, seeing patients seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. beginning April 2. Urgent care began at the Portsmouth facility in Fall 2010 with weekend hours, then expanded to seven days a week in 2011. The new hours are in response to patient requests for high quality, convenient urgent care services in Portsmouth. KDMC's Urgent Care Center treats the illnesses and injuries of adults and children who cannot wait for a traditional physician appointment, but do not require the services of a hospital emergency department. Urgent Care provides treatment for urgent medical needs when:
• primary care physicians are closed or not available after hours, weekends or holidays
• a medical condition is not serious enough to require the emergency department but still requires immediate attention
• a patient doesn't have a primary care physician
• medical needs are not life-threatening
• patients are visiting from out of town
