According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 1.7
million people sustain a traumatic brain injury each year.
To help brain injury survivors and those
who care for them cope with the many day-to-day challenges, King’s Daughters
Medical Center sponsors a Brain Injury Support Group, which meets at 4:30 p.m. the
first Tuesday each month in the family resource room of the KDMC Rehabilitation
Unit. The next meeting will take place Tuesday, March 6.
“Brain injury can occur in anyone at any
time from a variety of causes,” said Jo Etta King RN, continuum coordinator for
King’s Daughters Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Center. “Consequences of brain injury on survivors
can be unpredictable, and the stress on family members and caregivers can be
