Ashland, Ky. — KDMC's Safety and Security Team is attracting attention. The International Association for Security and Safety (IAHSS) has recognized the team with the prestigious Department of Distinction Award. KDMC is one of only 16 medical centers in the world to receive this award from the IAHSS as a Program of Distinction.

The IAHSS recognizes security and safety departments within healthcare facilities that have achieved and maintained a minimum percentage of IAHSS certified security personnel. The criteria focuses on the competencies of the facility's security officers, safety officers and director as measured through individual certification.

In addition to the international award from the IAHSS, KDMC's Security team was recognized nationally in the November 2011 issue of Security Magazine, which ranked them 54th in the top 500 hospital security departments in the nation.

"I am very proud of my team," said Scott Hill, director Safety and Security."They have invested many hours in their training and certifications."

KDMC Security provides many services to aid and protect customers and staff including: 

* Officers on-duty 24/7

* 500 on-campus security cameras

* Frequent vehicle, bicycle and foot patrols

* Offers trained and well-equipped, including non-violent crisis intervention training, tasers and pepper spray

* Emergency call boxes available in parking lots

"KDMC security officers are professional, well-trained, well-equipped and customer focused," said Hill.
