ASHLAND, KY — King’s Daughters is introducing a new support group for parents who have experienced the loss of a child during pregnancy or shortly following birth. The inaugural Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group will meet Thursday, July 12, 7 p.m., at KDMC’s Health Education Center (lower level of the Lexington Avenue parking garage). The group will continue to meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
“Our group welcomes anyone who has lost a child early in pregnancy, shortly after birth, or any time in between,” says KDMC Labor and Delivery Unit nurse Cathie Whitt, R.N., who serves as program coordinator. “It’s a highly emotional time for these parents, and our group can provide the strength they need to move forward.”
Whitt says the group will provide caring support for mothers and fathers, who will be encouraged to share their stories with other parents. Support group topics will include:
Miscarriage is the term used for a pregnancy that ends on it's own, within the first 20 weeks of gestation. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, miscarriage is the most common type of pregnancy loss, occurring in 10 to 25 percent of all clinically recognized pregnancies.
Reservations are not required to attend the support group. To learn more about the program, please call Cathie Whitt at (606) 327-4546.
