Scott Akers, M.D., to
assist with neurological evaluations
To better serve the needs of
neurological patients at King’s Daughters Medical Center, physical medicine and
rehabilitation physician Scott Akers, M.D., will assist neurosurgeon Clark Bernard, M.D., every
Wednesday with patient evaluations.
“Through these evaluations,
it can be determined whether a patient is in need of neurosurgery or therapy.
If surgery provides the best patient outcome, he or she will receive an
appointment with Dr. Bernard. If rehabilitation is the answer, I can begin
designing a treatment plan for that patient,” said Dr. Akers.
Dr. Akers is trained to
treat neurological rehabilitation conditions including stroke, brain injury and
spinal cord injury.
“My involvement with Dr.
Bernard allows more patients to be seen and thus leads to more patients being
treated. Whether the decision is surgery or rehab, our goal is to help these
patients regain functional ability and to enhance their quality of
