Vote online or via text to support kids’ health in Boyd and Greenup County elementary schools

The Kentucky Heart Foundation needs your help to enhance physical fitness programs in Boyd and Greenup counties in Kentucky.

“Parents, kids, businesses and civic organizations all can support the KHF grant request to the Refresh Project simply by signing up and voting,” said Laura Patrick, program coordinator for KHF. “The grant request with the most online votes wins,” Patrick said.

“Kentucky ranks third in overall prevalence of overweight and obese children,” Patrick said. “Our goal is to give children in our area places and ways to be to physically active.” The foundation also emphasizes healthy eating and nutritious school lunches.

The $250,000 grant would enable KHF to bring state-of-the-art outdoor and indoor fitness equipment and training programs to 12 elementary schools in Boyd and Greenup counties through Project Fit America.

Outdoor fitness equipment would include a horizontal ladder, parallel bars, pole climb, pull-up bars, sit-up station, step test station and vault bar. The mobile indoor equipment would include fitness cups, hula-hoops, a pacer cadence tape that provides cardio training and food models for nutrition relay racing.
