KDMC to Sponsor Breast
Cancer Awareness Walk and Day of Beauty
Join breast cancer survivors
and King’s Daughters Medical Center 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at
the medical center’s Health Education Center for a wellness walk and Day of
Beauty in a show of support for the fight against breast cancer.
Walkers are encouraged to
convene at KDMC’s Health Education Center (lower level of the Lexington Avenue
parking garage) for a brief welcoming ceremony. Day of Beauty events are
reserved for survivors first, then open to the public. Members of the community
are encouraged to participate in the walk.
The wellness walk takes
place in Ashland’s Central Park and the Day of Beauty begins immediately
following the walk at the Health Education Center. Day of Beauty activities
include: manicures, skin care, crowning of Beauty Queen for the Day, door
prizes and educational literature.

event, call 1.888.377.KDMC (5362).
Breast cancer is the second
leading cause of cancer death in women in Kentucky. Early detection, through
mammography and/or breast self-exam, is the most effective way to treat the
disease before it metastasizes or spreads through the body. The American Cancer
Society recommends that women age 40 and older have annual mammograms and do
monthly breast self-exams. Women who have never or rarely been screened for
breast cancer are at greater risk for late stage detection of breast cancer,
which translates to higher mortality.
