King’s Daughters Oncology Services has earned a full three-year accreditation with commendation in the category of Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. The program is led by radiation oncologist Jeffrey Lopez, M.D., who serves as cancer committee chair; radiation oncologist Terry Justice, M.D., the general tumor board chair; general surgeon Mary Legenza, M.D., the cancer committee liaison and breast tumor board chair; oncologist/hematologist David Goebel, M.D., medical director of oncology; and pulmonologist Bjorn Thorarinsson, M.D., the thoracic tumor board chair. KDMC’s oncology program has earned accreditation continuously since 1994.

The Commission on Cancer is an organization dedicated to improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients through standard setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive, quality care. To maintain approval, accredited facilities undergo an on-site review every three years.
KDMC’s oncology program features an experienced team of physicians and nurses who provide patients promising treatment options, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, nurse navigators and registry services. The team also has cancer committees that include physicians from many different specialties that closely monitor the care and treatment plans for all cancer patients to ensure the best individual care for each.
