The 3rd annual Ashland HeartChase is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28  (registration at 9 a.m.) in Central Park, as part of Summer Motion. For the first time, the American Heart Association event will be a collaborative effort of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) and Kings Daughters Medical Center (KDMC).

Ashland HeartChase offers participants a creative way to contribute to an important cause while having a good time and reinforcing a healthy lifestyle. Ashland HeartChase is a mash-up of popular TV shows such as Amazing Race and Minute to Win It. The competition will send teams throughout Ashland, where they must perform both physical and mental challenges at checkpoints. The HeartChase course begins and ends in Central Park.

The team that completes the course while collecting the most points will be named Ashland HeartChase champions and will receive a trophy. Prizes also will be awarded to the teams with the most spirit and the wackiest attire.

The event not only contributes to the mission of the American Heart Association, it provides a great opportunity to learn about the benefits of being heart healthy and the risk factors of heart disease and stroke.

For more information on joining a team or donating, visit heartchase.org, select “join the chase” and then enter Ashland, Ky., in the search field. There you’ll be able to make a secure, online donation to the Ashland HeartChase or search for an existing Ashland HeartChase team to join or follow.

The Ashland HeartChase also can be followed on Facebook at ashlandheartchase. For more information, contact the OLBH at (606) 833-CARE (2273).
