King’s Daughters Medical Center has once again earned two Get With The Guidelines® quality achievement awards from the American Heart Association for Resuscitation and Heart Failure.
“King’s Daughters is dedicated to helping our patients have the best possible outcomes,” said Angela Graham, Quality Outcomes. “Implementing the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines program helps us accomplish this by making it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge to work on a daily basis.”
It is the second consecutive year KDMC has earned the GWTG Resuscitation award and the fourth year for the GWTG Heart Failure award, Graham noted.
Get With The Guidelines Silver Quality Achievement Award for Resuscitation
King’s Daughters received the Get With The Guidelines Silver Quality Achievement Award from the AHA for Resuscitation for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Hospital Association for the treatment of patients who suffer cardiac arrests in the hospital.
King’s Daughters achieved 12 consecutive months of 85 percent or higher adherence to all the GWTG Resuscitation Achievement Indicators. The GWTG-Resuscitation program was developed with the goal to save lives of those who experience cardiac arrests through consistently following the most up-to-date research-based guidelines for treatment. These include following protocols for patient safety, medical emergency team response, effective and timely resuscitation (CPR) and post-emergency care.
Get With The Guidelines — Heart Failure Silver-Plus Quality Achievement Award
King’s Daughters also received the Get With The Guidelines — Heart Failure Silver-Plus Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology secondary prevention guidelines for heart failure patients.
King’s Daughters achieved 12 consecutive months of 85 percent or higher adherence to all of the Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Achievement Indicators and 12 consecutive months of 75 percent or higher compliance with five or more of the Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Quality Indicators to improve quality of patient care and outcomes. The measures include proper use of medications and aggressive risk-reduction therapies such as cholesterol-lowering drugs, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, aspirin, diuretics and anticoagulants while patients are in the hospital. Before discharge, patients also receive education on managing their heart failure and overall health, as well as referrals for cardiac rehabilitation.
