King’s Daughters is accepting applications for the medical center’s 2014 Summer Teen Volunteer Program.

“We are proud to give teens the opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence and better understand the world of work,” said Anne Sloan, KDMC volunteer services director. “Volunteering at King’s Daughters also encourages teens to develop a sense of commitment to others.”

Eligibility requirements:

  • The potential teen volunteer must be 14 years or older on or before June 1, 2014.
  • The completed application, including parent/guardian signature, must be completed and submitted to the Volunteer Office no later than Friday, April 11.
  • New teen volunteers must successfully complete a mandatory orientation. Prospective teen volunteers may inquire about this year’s orientation program schedule upon submitting their applications.

Teens are required to work at least one four-hour shift each week. Those accepted into the program must commit to their assigned schedule and miss no more than one week of service. Notice for vacations or other activities must be given in advance.

Applications are available online at kdmc.com. Upon receipt of the completed application, additional paperwork will be mailed to the teen’s parent or guardian.

I think that it is a good idea to let teenagers get the chance to volunteer at KDMC, so they can get a feel of what it would be like to work in a hospital. They would either like it or not and if they did like it, then they will be able to get a chance to take the classes in High School. Keep up the good work KDMC!!!
