ASHLAND, KY — The King’s Daughters Breast Care Center is announcing extended hours for mammography services. Beginning June 4, appointments will be available on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Exams also can be scheduled during regular business hours, Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Breast Care Center, housed on the second floor of KDMC’s Center for Advanced Imaging, provides mammography services, as well as breast ultrasound and DEXA osteoporosis scans. The mammography units feature digital technology, which improves the quality of the breast image.
Breast Care Center medical director Robert Penkava, M.D., says digital mammography may be more effective than film mammography in detecting breast abnormalities in specific patient populations.
“Research from the National Cancer Institute indicates that women with dense breasts, those who are premenopausal, and those who are younger than age 50 may benefit from having a digital rather than a film mammogram,” Dr. Penkava says.
King’s Daughters’ mammography program is accredited by the American College of Radiology, who awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice.
In addition to the Breast Care Center, KDMC offers mobile mammography services throughout eastern Kentucky and southern Ohio.
