KDMC Recognized for Support of Military Employees

ESGR Award 09King’s Daughters Medical Center President/CEO Fred Jackson was recognized last week with a Seven Seals award for his significant individual support to promote and support the area’s men and women serving with the National Guard and Reserve.

The award was presented by retired Maj. Gen. Robert Silverthorn, who chairs the Kentucky committee for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).

“This is a high honor and has rarely been given by Kentucky’s ESGR committee,” said Silverthorn, a Louisville attorney and a retired two-star general in the U.S. Army.

KDMC also received the ESGR Above & Beyond award, given to employers that offer far more than is required by law and “go the extra mile” with actions and policies to support employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve. KDMC team member Angie Donta was recognized with a Patriot award for her supervision of a KDMC employee who is a former National Guardsman.

ESGR is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support of Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through mediation.

“Employers that understand that almost half of our military force resides in the Reserve Component, which includes the National Guard and Reserve, are vital partners in our national security,” Silverthorn said.“ KDMC has demonstrated a willingness to go far beyond its legal responsibilities with its Guard and Reserve employees, providing continued benefits while a service member is deployed on active duty,” he said.
