In a heat wave, the first thing most of us think of to stay cool is to swim. Although swimming is certainly a great way for kids and adults alike to stay cool, it’s important for adults to remember what dangers lurk beneath the surface and how to avoid potential disaster.

Here are a few basic tips:

  • Always supervise children. Always.
  • Be sure to give children your undivided attention during swim time.
  • Whether you’re swimming in a backyard pool, the lake, or in the ocean, be sure to teach children to always swim with a partner.
  • Teach children at a very early age not to go near or in water without adult supervision.
  • We know your list is long, but learning CPR should be a priority. Not only will it offer you peace of mind, it could also save a life. We offer CPR training to the public. Call (606) 408-9297 to learn more.
  • Educate your children about the dangers of drain entanglement and entrapment and teach them to never play or swim near drains or suction outlets.
