King's Daughters Health Foundation recently announced the winners of the 2013 scholarship awards. Each year, the Health Foundation awards scholarships to six high school seniors in the region. This year's scholarship winners were:

King's Daughters Health Foundation, Health Career Scholarship ($2,500)
Winner:  Kadin Ashley
High School:  Greenup County High School
Parents:  Kevin and Sheri Ashley
Attending: University of Kentucky

Boyd County Medical Society Scholarship ($1,500)
Winner:  Madison Shaye Cole
High School:  Russell High School
Parents:  Mark and Deborah Cole
Attending:  Morehead State University

Boyd County Medical Society Scholarship ($1,500)
Winner:  Erica M. Haney
High School:  Boyd County High School
Parent:  Martha Haney
Attending:  Morehead State University

Boyd County Medical Society Scholarship ($1,500) 

Winner:  Paige McKnight
High School:  Fairview High School
Parent:  Kyle McKnight
Attending:  Georgetown College

Boyd County Medical Society Scholarship ($1,500)

High School:  Paul G. Blazer High School

Attending:  Berea College

Edna Monk Scholarship ($1,000)

Winner:  Allie Beason
High School:  Russell High School
Parents:  Samuel and Michelle Beason
Attending:  University of Louisville

"We received a large volume of scholarship applications from local high school seniors this year," said Jane Blankenship, King's Daughters Health Foundation executive director. "This region is blessed with intelligent, talented and community - minded youth which made the field of applications very competitive. We are pleased to award scholarships to these six area students and wish them great success in this new chapter of their lives."

The King's Daughters Health Foundation exists to build financial support for King’s Daughters Medical Center as it strives to meet the growing needs of the our community. Through the work of the Health Foundation executive committee and committee members, contributions and gifts are secured to support patient care, medical equipment upgrades, outreach services including health screenings and education, and wellness programs as well as special needs for families.
