Ashland, Ky.— Colon cancer is a preventable disease. Nine out of 10 colon cancer patients may prevent or be cured with regular checks. Everyone age 50 and older should get regular colon cancer checks — earlier screening may be recommended based on family history of the disease. Early colon cancer may have no symptoms, so screening is vital to catch precancerous polyps or colon cancer in its earliest stages.

 

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and King’s Daughters team members will provide education regarding the importance of colorectal cancer screening.

Ashland, Ky.— King’s Daughters team members will advocate for patient safety from noon to 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 6 at Belk in the Ashland Town Center and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, March 8, at the KYOVA Mall as part of National Patient Safety Awareness Week. 

“Patients aren’t always aware that they can have a direct impact on their safety,” said Rachel Rardon, Patient Safety Specialist at KDMC. “It’s important for patients and families to become active participants in their own healthcare.”

Ashland, Ky.— King’s Daughters Medical Specialties — Russell will offer free skin cancer screenings at its office on Diederich Blvd. in the Kroger plaza from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23.

The screenings are free, but registration is required by calling 1-888-377-KDMC. Family physician, Jane Wiseman Strader, M.D., will review results.

ASHLAND, Ky. – King’s Daughters Medical Center is offering a free healthy heart and EKG screening beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, on the KDMC Mobile Health Unit at Bailey’s Carpet, 158 Gardner Trail, Salyersville.

Screening results will be read by Kentucky Heart Institute provider.

The screening includes an EKG, total cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and blood oxygen levels, and is sponsored by King’s Daughters in cooperation with the Kentucky Heart Foundation. Appointments are required and may be made by calling 1-888-377-KDMC (5362). Fasting is not required.
