Quality Managment

The Quality Management Department aims to continually improve the medical center’s performance over the long term by focusing on the delivery of services, tracking outcome data, making recommendations for change, and ensuring that KDMC meets state and national standards of excellence. In addition, Quality Management professionals compare KDMC performance with best-practice facilities in a process called benchmarking.

Responsibilities of Quality Management include:

  • enhancing the quality of services for customers
  • performance improvement
  • protecting and ensuring customer rights
  • monitoring and improving customer outcomes
  • monitoring and improving patient safety
  • promoting effective resource allocation
  • problem identification and problem-solving
  • preparing the medical center for inspections by accrediting agencies such as the Kentucky Health and Human Services Commission and the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations

Areas represented by Quality Management are:

Case Management

This function assures that the medical center has sufficient capacity to meet individual needs across diverse populations and large geographic regions. Case managers assure that patient receive appropriate care in the most appropriate setting.

Social Work

These team members serve as discharge planners to help ensure that patients have the support and resources to return home safely, or to make arrangements for patients to move into a nursing home. They also assist patients with advance directives such as living wills and durable power of attorney, community resources and referrals, assure that continuing needs are met, identify and assist with home care needs, and provide support for psychosocial needs.

Infection Control and Employee Health

This department keeps records on immunization schedules, document adverse events and on-the-job injuries and makes suggestions for improving workplace health and safety for the benefit of employees and patients.
