Meals-on-Wheels
King's Daughters coordinates the Meals-on-Wheels program within the City of Ashland. Meals-on-Wheels volunteers deliver a delicious hot meal at lunchtime Monday through Friday. In addition, breakfast and cold dinner items are included. The program serves homebound elderly or physically limited individuals.
Meals-on-Wheels is a partnership between the KDMC, the Community Kitchen and CAReS.
For individuals interested in the Meals-on-Wheels program, their first point of contact is with CAReS, a local referral agency that handles the application process for the program. To contact CAReS, please call (606) 324-2949.
After CAReS receives and reviews the application, those eligible for the program are forwarded to King's Daughters Community Relations Department. If there are openings on the route that serves the individual's neighborhood, they are put on the program immediately. If there are no openings, the individual may be placed on a waiting list and contacted when the program can accommodate them.
The meals for the Meals-on-Wheels program and prepared by the staff at Community Kitchen, a local agency that provides lunch for area residents who have no means to feed themselves. Medical center dietitians work with the Community Kitchen in preparing diets for persons with dietary restrictions, such as diabetes or persons with heart disease.
