The Middle Years
In the middle years, the pace really picks up. Now, in addition to caring for her family, a woman is likely thinking about her parents and their health. There's a lot to know, and King's Daughters is here to help.
Heart Disease: A Silent Risk
While many women think they are protected from heart disease, the truth is that it's the NO. 1 killer of both women and men. During our middle years, estrogen does play a protective role ... but that won't last forever. The time to make sure you're taking good care of your heart is now! Be your own advocate and talk to your primary care physician about your heart health. If you have a heart murmur or irregular heartbeat, make sure it's monitored regularly. Ask your doctor about a cardiology consult.
King's Daughters network of
heart specialists has offices conveniently located throughout the Tri-State, in more than
20 locations, to make it easy to get the great heart care you deserve.
Breast Cancer: The Power to Prevent, Detect, Defeat
Early detection is the best prevention against breast cancer. Continue your breast self-exams, but talk to your doctor about mammograms. For most women, the time to start is age 38.
King's Daughters offers mammography at the
Breast Care Center, located inside the Center for Advanced Imaging on Central Avenue in Ashland. Our mammography units are digital, which results in lower radiation exposure. For women with a positive mammogram, our
Breast Health Nurse Navigator will connect you to the services and physicians you need to ensure rapid diagnosis and treatment.
Our Women's Boutique offers an array of merchandise and services to support women fighting breast cancer, including specialty bras, breast forms and a certified mastectomy fitter. The boutique also offers wigs, along with the services of specially trained personnel who can help you look your best.
Mobile Mammography
King's Daughters also provides mobile mammography services. Our mobile mammo unit travels throughout Ohio and Kentucky each week. Testing is performed by specially trained mammography technologists using all digital equipment.
A physician order is not required for screening mammography. To schedule an appointment, call King's Daughters Centralized Scheduling at (606) 408-2742 or toll free at 1-877-304-1935.
Thanks to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure, King's Daughters is able to provide a limited number of free mammograms to uninsured/underinsured women residing in Kentucky and certain counties in southern Ohio. To check on eligibility and availability, please call 1-888-377-KDMC.
Lung Cancer: You Can Stop It!
Smoking is the No. 1 preventable cause of lung cancer. If you're a smoker, you owe it to yourself to stop. King's Daughters tobacco cessation program has helped thousands of people stop tobacco use. The FREE program operates continuously throughout the year, so you can stop whenever you're ready. Call us at (606) 408-6400 to learn more.
