Wound Healing Center
The experts at King’s Daughters Wound Healing Center help patients and their physicians tackle the most difficult non-healing wounds.
Because non-healing wounds are often a symptom of underlying conditions, we offer a multidisciplinary approach with the three-part goal of healing, preservation and prevention.
Our team consists of physicians, nurses and other allied health professionals. Specialists in the fields of vascular surgery, dermatology, endocrinology, infection control, pain management and physical/rehabilitation medicine are consulted as needed.
Our team includes five nurses who have earned certification as wound care nurses from the national Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board and one clinician who has earned Certified Wound Specialist certification through the American Board of Wound Management.
We provide care for patients with surgical wounds, snake, spider or insect bites, skin grafts, diabetic neuropathy, pressure ulcers, osteomyelitis infections and more.
We provide specialized services for patients with stomas, including colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy, including care for:
- Peristomal skin problems
- Stomal complications
- Appliance issues
Routine care and education are also provided.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO)
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses 100 percent oxygen at increased atmospheric pressure to help speed wound healing. HBO therapy is designed to increase delivery of oxygen to injured body tissues. It helps promote greater blood vessel formation, preservation of damaged tissue, and the reduction or elimination of gas-bubble in obstructions.
HBO therapy is indicated for:
- Gas gangrene
- Acute traumatic peripheral ischemia
- Crush injuries and severed limbs
- Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency
- Progressive necrotizing infections
- Preparation and preservation of compromised skin grafts
- Chronic refractory osteomyelitis
- Osteoradionecrosis as an adjunct to conventional treatment
- Thermal skin burns
- Actinomycosis as an adjunct to conventional therapy
In addition to wound healing, HBO is used to treat:
- Acute carbon monoxide intoxication
- Decompression illness (the bends)
- Gas embolism
- Cyanide poisoning
