The Center for Lung Health

Like other conditions, lung diseases can be better managed when caught in the early stages. Every chest X-ray or chest CT performed at King’s Daughters is reviewed by a cross-sectional committee. Abnormal results (where spots or lung nodules are found) are referred to the lung health nurse navigator for follow up. A nurse practitioner is at the center full-time to assess patients and, together with a pulmonologist, treat each patient.

Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic

Pulmonary hypertension can be difficult to diagnosis because symptoms can be mistaken for other conditions. Symptoms can include fatigue, weakness and shortness of breath with or without exertion. The Center for Lung Health provides evaluation, diagnosis, education and treatment of this complicated disease. Patients are seen by physician referral.

Pulmonary Function Tests

Pulmonary function tests are performed with a physician order for the purpose of:

• Diagnosing certain types of lung disease, especially asthma, bronchitis and emphysema
• Finding the cause of shortness of breath
• Measuring whether exposure to contaminants has affected lung function

Pulmonary function tests also can be performed to evaluate the effectiveness of medication and measure progress of treatment.
