Endovascular intervention is relatively new. It utilizes minimally invasive techniques for treating the two major problems that can develop in blood vessels: an aneurysm and a narrowing .
Most of these procedures are done through the skin without need for incisions. The vessels are treated from within, using balloons, stents, thrombolytics (clot busters), lasers and other techniques. The main advantage to these techniques is less stress on the patient and short recovery time. The vast majority do not require general anesthesia. Most blood vessel disorders can be treated using these techniques.
